Risk Management
The YMCA has a commitment to developing and maintaining safe and comprehensive risk management procedures for all activities and subscribes to the principle that the safety of every individual in every activity is paramount.
We pride ourselves at Raukawa with an outstanding safety record. We acknowledge the fact that we do work in the outdoors arena and that accidents happen. Through our proactive approach we strive to minimize any type of accident and be prepared and capable to deal with any accident that might occur.
We operate within our site specific Code of Practice (COP) for the Outdoors that we share with the various YMCA Outdoor Centres. The following 12 aspects in relation to the COP are highlighted:
- Accountability structure
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Communication of programme content prior to participation
- Collection of relevant medical and behavioural information
- Proper briefing of all activities
- Trained and experienced staff
- First aid qualifications, kit and room
- Appropriate instructor / leader and participant supervision structure contained within our activity specific safety management plan (RAMS)
- Accident or incident management system
- Equipment logbook, checking, maintenance, replacement and retirement structure
- Legislative compliance
- Counselling, guidance, debriefing in case of an incident or accident
We gladly assist groups by providing a copy of the appropriate RAMS for their camp activities.
Visible evidence of our continuous improvement in our leadership and supervision structure can be found in our stated commitment to work towards the achievement of becoming a registered OutdoorsMark quality assurance provider.
