Education

Welcome to the YMCA Education

The YMCA’s Journey into Education started with the training of unemployed people in the late 70’s and, as a result of our reputation and work with youth, expanded into the youth market in the 1980’s as government looked to us to offer training to this age group.

Today Education is a key activity stream within the YMCA, and contributes enormously to meeting our mission and vision of building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

Overtime the YMCA has established a niche market of offering Foundation Skills training to Youth and Second Chance Learners. The focus is on supporting them develop the necessary skills to move into the workplace or onto further study.

This YMCA vision of 'building strong kids, strong families and strong communities' aligns with the current Government's tertiary education strategy to raise foundation skills for every day life and the workplace, so that all people positively participate in, and contribute to the economic and social development of NZ by supporting themselves and their families.
