At Wanganui YMCA we pride ourselves that our programmes are governed by the following two standards:
- The safety of every individual in every activity is paramount, and
- Cost will not be a barrier for programme participation.
Our Values
As YMCA we promote the Family Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, Responsibility and Enjoyment of Life. These values are promoted, taught and integrated into the delivery of every YMCA programme. The YMCA programmes seek to develop self esteem, values, leadership, and specific (life) skills to strengthen families, achieve fun and laughter, and are inclusive of age, income, ethnicity and ability.
As a not-for-profit organisation the YMCA with its values underlying and guiding the culture of the organisation, the programmes delivered and the behaviour of the people it is an example to many businesses in terms of being a sustainable organisation for many years, more so than the average business.
Two things are for certain at the YMCA
- A lot of what rubs off on "kids" at the YMCA does not wash off.
- You are never too old to do the YMCA
Bi-Cultural Statement
The YMCA acknowledges that the Te Tiriti O Waitangi was an agreement between two peoples Tangata Whenua and Tau Iwi and seeks to establish the principle of partnership in life in Aotearoa. This goal is supported through association structures, administration processes, policies and procedures. Actions and activities seek to reflect this partnership. The YMCA has a holistic perspective and addresses the uniqueness of Mind - Body - Spirit. Emphasis is on unconditional acceptance of one another without compromise to self.
The YMCA is committed to the pursuit of equity and the Treaty of Waitangi; in particular Article 3 serves as our foundation. The YMCA conducts education and recreation initiatives so that through personal development we can be responsive to the needs of all cultures.
